Always the structured and analytical type, Cherilyn was an accountant for 15 years, despite her dream of becoming a teacher. Basketry offered both a comfort zone of structure and fundamental principles as well as creative expression. The years of basketweaving have brought balance into her life, work and art. She thrives on learning more, experimenting with new designs, and sharing her expertise with others, which has helped her evolve into the teacher she always dreamed of being.
Cherilyn was hooked after weaving her first basket. Since then she has gone crazy with weaving, teaching and designing baskets. She is co-founder of the Ann Arbor Area Weavers Guild and owner of a shop, Cherilyn Braun Basketweaving, and really gets enthused sharing her basketry knowledge and learning from others. Cherilyn teaches at community education programs, local guilds, and state conventions, including Michigan, Indiana, North Carolina, Illinois, Missouri, Virginia, Georgia and Stowe Vermont. She won Best in Round Reed at the 2003 Association of Michigan Basketmakers Convention, Best in Flat Reed at the 2004 Association of Michigan Basketmakers Convention and Viewer's Choice at the 2006 Missouri Basketweavers' Convention.
